Origin:
sanshia was formerly known as Sanjiayong, where the beginning place for the confluence of the 3 rivers, Dakekan, Sanjiayong and Heng.
In the early Qing Dynasty, a person named Chen Yu from Ciyuanjhou of Fujian has reclaimed here from what is now known as Yingge to recruit land tenants. Later on, there was another person named Dong Rihyu from Ansi of Ciyuanjhou, who led his clan to settle in the triangular alluvial plan converged from Dajusiian River, Sanjiayong River and Heng River. They established a village and named it “Sanjiajhu”. “Sanjia” is derived from the triangular plan while “hju” meant that the three sides were surrounded by water.
In the Japanese occupation period, it was renamed after the upper reaches of China Yangtze, the “Three Gorges”. Since the number of residents in 1941 has increased dramatically, it was again renamed as sanshia Street. After Taiwan’s restoration, it was changed to sanshia Township.
History:
From the reign of Qing Emperor Kanxi to its fall, it was under Haishan Village, Jhuluo Province. Between 1895 and 1909, it was governed by Sanyiayong Reclamation Department. From 1909 to 1920, Sanjiayong Branch of Haisan Fort from Taoyuan Office divided the place into two areas, sanshia and Chengfu. In 1920, there was a reform for local system and the two areas were united to be sanshia Village under Taipei Province. In 1935, the original boundaries, Daliao
, Zunzitou, Wilaio, Chajiiao and Dongyan were united to be the jurisdiction of sanshia Village. In 1943, it was upgraded to sanshia Street and then sanshia Township in 1946. sanshia has preserved quiet a number of names for places. When you begin to discover, you will be able to appreciate the natural environment, commodities and historical trace of early reclamation from the ancestors. It is very interesting and at the same time, it is a resort for further understanding of the development in sanshia.Dyed cloth, tea and camphor were the biggest commodities for past sanshia.

It is formerly known as Sanjiayong Street area. In Taisho 9 (1920), local administrative system was amended and the place name was changed at the same time. The name of sanshia came from the gentry, Bingjyung Chen. Since sanshia was the origin for markets and streets, its name was reserved for the village.
